Rotary in Birkenhead
Birkenhead Santa Parade.
Simple pleasures in a complex world. Organised and run by Rotary Birkenhead for the kids in our community.
Chelsea Art Trail.
A new event in 2013 which grew in 2014 and 2015! Already firmly established on the Art Trail Circuit. Benefiting local charities to the tune of $9000 across these years.
Waitangi Days Bowls Tournament.
We've been involved in this annual event at Birkenhead Bowling Club for longer than anyone can remember. In the last few tournaments we raised $6100 for Plunket, $8350 for Riding for the Disabled and $7000+ for the Neurological Foundation.
Acknowledging the unsung but very deserving heroes in our community
Trees for Survival.
Each year we provide practical and financial assistance to our friends at Verran Primary School to run this wonderful activity - an environmental education programme which involves kids growing and planting native trees to help landowners revegetate erosion prone land, improve stream flow and water quality, and increase biodiversity.
We undertake a number of one-off projects as well, such as Dictionaries in Schools.
In 2015 we have also helped create a permanent war memorial at Birkdale Primary School.
Quite a bit of what we do we're a bit coy about. Nothing weird or dodgy, but just charitable stuff where recipients are genuinely needy, but may not want to publicise that.
We serve our community in many ways, including involvement with local schools, supporting youth initiatives including Outward Bound and the Summer Science School, improving local amenities and reserves, supporting projects of volunteer organisations with both manpower and funding, initiating projects to assist many areas of need - Cure Kids, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, Challenge Camp, Youth Leadership Awards and many others.
Creative fundraising for projects that draw communities together is a key aspect of what we do.
